If they can find a happy medium from their last two games, there’s a good chance the Saskatoon Blades can return to the win column Tuesday night in Red Deer.
Following an opening night 3-2, overtime, triumph in Prince Albert, the Bridge City Bunch have dropped back-to-back home games in diametrically different ways. The home opener was a 1-0 loss to the Raiders where the Blue and Gold couldn’t buy a goal, but played very well defensively. Meanwhile, their last outing was a 7-6 setback to visiting Winnipeg as the Blades found their collective scoring eyes but made too many mistakes without the puck, allowing the ICE to prevail. Eliminate the negatives and utilize the positives from those two games and 1-2-0 Saskatoon has a very good chance at getting back to .500 for the season. However, that won’t be easy against a young, hard-working 1-3-0 Rebels team in the Enmax Centrium where the Bridge City Bunch dropped both of their visits last season.
Tuesday night could be an evening of milestones for individual Blue and Gold players. Nolan Maier (pictured) could become just the 10th goaltender in Blades’ franchise history to play 100 games, captain Chase Wouters is ready to take part in his 200th game with Saskatoon…the 75th skater to do so…and forward Jerzy Orchard is set to make his Bridge City Bunch debut after the Delisle product was acquired from Kamloops last week. In addition, 19-year-old centre Eric Florchuk is on the trip with the Blue and Gold and could return to action Tuesday after missing the previous two games with an Upper Body injury.
Tuesday’s game can be heard on 98-COOL with the Sardinia Family Restaurant pre-game show kicking things off at 6 o’clock and the play-by-play at 7.
