Arts, culture and heritage will be front and center this week in Saskatoon. The 2019 Creative City Summit will come to the Bridge City for the first time with 140 delegates from 52 communities expected to take part in the three-day event. Kevin Kitchen, the City of Saskatoon’s Community Development Manager says the summit will allow the City of Saskatoon to learn from other cities in attendance. Kitchen says there are lessons to be learned in terms of attracting creative industries including those in fashion and design to stay in their respective cities. He adds the summit is also an opportunity to promote Saskatoon. “We’re hoping the delegates will go away and tell their friends and colleagues back in their home cities that there’s a lot happening in Saskatoon and quite frankly I think we can be seen as one of the arts and cultural leaders in Canada.” Kitchen says those in attendance will have the opportunity to visit the Remai Modern and Wanuskewin. The theme of this year’s summit is Growing Creative Cultural Economy for the 21st Century. The summit will get underway today (tues) at the Bessborough and wrap up Thursday afternoon.
