The City of Saskatoon has been told it can’t demolish a Briarwood home pending a court hearing.
The owner of the house at 166 Beechdale Crescent got a temporary stop order approved Tuesday morning by a Court of Queen’s Bench judge and will get to state the case for saving the structure from the wrecking ball on October 11th.
The City feels the home is not structurally sound and infested with mould after burst pipes filled the basement with water making it uninhabitable and too costly to repair.
City officials say the house has been abandoned since 2016 and despite many attempts to make contact hasn’t heard from the out-of-country owner until now.
The construction equipment and perimeter fencing was in place and demolition was set to begin when the court decision came down.
The City will remove the equipment until the judge makes a decision following the October 11th hearing.
