“The other thing that probably would have helped is you know we were just listening to music on our phones while we were travelling. You know that would probably be our number one mistake. We weren’t listening to local radio. If we had been, we would have known.”
That from Lacey Fisher of Warman who along with her sister Rayelle and two friends, Jade Green and Brittany Taggart, ended up stuck on the highway in North Dakota for 15 hours in that same terrible weather system which ravaged Manitoba over Thanksgiving.
They were headed south to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for a long weekend trip. Lacey Fisher says they were stuck on the highway with many other passenger vehicles as well as semis as the winds gusted close to 140 kilometres an hour creating white-out blizzard conditions.
The quartet didn’t make it to their destination but they also did not come to any harm. The women were prepared with an emergency kit, food, water, and had the presence of mind to conserve gas as well as keep the exhaust pipe clear during the 15 hours they were stuck.
