The president of a condo association in Briarwood is satisfied with the City of Saskatoon’s response to a letter of concern sent to City Council last May. Rhonda Bourhis, with Briarwood Estates Condo Corporation, says residents are concerned with the increase in traffic making it impossible to turn left on 8th Street and Briargate Road and the amount of speeding drivers, with a playground on Briargate.
Bourhis says within days, Saskatoon Police set up traffic counter lines and a sign that tells you if you are speeding or not, and there were officers noticeably patrolling for about 10 days. Then, the condo association received a letter saying the numbers weren’t high enough to qualify for something permanent, like traffic lights.
Bourhis was glad to see the quick response to their query and realizes there are plans for an overpass at 8th Street at the CPR tracks, so she hopes that will calm traffic down. She expects the increase in traffic is because of all the new neighbourhoods and the south Costco.
