A 27 year old man made his first court appearance Wednesday on about a dozen charges, including Attempted Murder, in connection to the non-fatal shooting of a Turtleford RCMP officer near Mervin.
RCMP had previously stated they were responding September 24th to a possible impaired driver who was believed to be speeding near Loon Lake.
Officers located the suspect vehicle a few hours later near the village of Mervin and when two of the RCMP members approached the vehicle, one was shot.
The officers returned fire and the suspect was arrested, then taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Regina Police say Justin Davis Yakimchuk was unlawfully at large for breach of his Statutory release at the time of his alleged involvement in this incident.
The events leading up to the shooting and the shooting itself are being investigated by the Regina Police Service at the request of the Saskatchewan RCMP. The RCMP also requested an independent observer.
