The Remediation Manager with the Saskatchewan Research Council is taking a message of consultation to Thursday’s RemTech 2019 conference in Fairmont Banff Springs.
Ian Wilson says engaging with local stakeholders and First Nations’ rights holders’ over remediation of former uranium mine and mill operations in northern Saskatchewan is good for the projects and business.
Wilson also points out former employees are excellent resources when planning cleanup operations for mines and mills shutdown in the 50’s and 60’s when today’s regulations didn’t exist.
The S-R-C official says they have first-hand knowledge of the operations and key locations when planning to cleanup remote sites lacking infrastructure that have been sitting dormant for many years.
Wilson stresses a detailed plan is crucial knowing it has to be proactive as well as adaptive to the conditions they find.
His address to will also take delegates through the history of uranium mining dating back to the 1950’s.
