With a nod to the first anniversary of the legalization of marijuana in Canada on October 17th, an organization that promotes the health and wellness economy is hosting a panel discussion on investment and development opportunites for medical marijuana.
Health Innovation and Economic Development spokesperson, Sanj Singh, says there are opportunities to develop products and hold that intellectual property.
For example, researchers at the University of Saskatchewan are looking into plant genetics. There are about 120 bio-active compounds in a cannabis plant that have potential therapeutic uses. Singh gives the example of a drug that is now approved for treating epilepsy.
The panel will talk about intellectual property, pharmacy and distribution, investment, product development, and retail cannabis. The ticketed event begins at 1:30 at the Remai Modern Art Gallery tomorrow (Thurs) afternoon.
