If you have a valid health card and you live in Saskatchewan, you can get a free flu shot. The public health clinics began on Monday. Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Saqib Shahab, says there were delays in the delivery of this year’s vaccine but it is available now.
Pharmacists can administer the free flu shot to anyone 5 years and older. Children under 5 and non-Saskatchewan residents can be vaccinated at one of the public health clinics. The flu shot is also available at some physician and nurse practitioner offices.
Dr. Shahab says getting vaccinated is especially important for those at high risk of flu complications and their caregivers – pregnant women, young children, the elderly, people with underlying health conditions, and those that are immune-compromised.
