The Saskatchewan NDP is concerned that the government’s plans in 2017 to sell SaskTel progressed much further than was acknowledged. Finance Critic Trent Wotherspoon submitted a letter to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly today (Thurs) to have him rule on a question question of Privilege to determine whether House Leader Jeremy Harrison was misleading in May of 2017 when he said there had been no formal discussions as to what a transaction may or may not look like and no formal offers.
Wotherspoon says that same day, according to a report from the Information and Privacy Commissioner, SaskTel entered into a “mutual non-disclosure agreement” and a “joint defence privileged agreement” with a third party to discuss the sale. Wotherspoon wants to know how close they got to selling off SaskTel.
The Information and Privacy Commissioner ruled in August that some of the documents should be released and others should be withheld. Wotherspoon says the government has refused to fully comply.
Back in August, when the Privacy Commissioner’s report was released, Premier Moe stated that since 2017 the government has had no plans to sell the Crowns.
