It’s a way to continue to build a bridge between police and the Indigenous community.
RCMP and Prince Albert police are taking part in Saturday’s Feast and Round Dance in P-A to honour missing and murdered Indigenous people.
Inspector Honey Dwyer of the Saskatchewan Indigenous Policing Unit says acknowledging and learning from past mistakes while embracing this ceremony will help police learn Indigenous culture.
She says understanding their traditions and culture is key to improving their relationship.
Dwyer points out Indigenous culture calls for the ceremony to be repeated four times and the P-A event follows up on last year’s initial feast and round dance in Saskatoon.
It starts at 4 p.m. in the Senator Allen Bird Memorial Centre.
