Both the Mayor of Saskatoon, the largest community in the province, and the Mayor of Regina, the province’s capital, will be getting a call from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau this morning.
The Prime Minister is calling Mayor Charlie Clark in Washington, D.C. where he is at for a conference.
Mayor Clark said, in a statement, that he looks forward to talking with the Prime Minister about the uncertainty that people are feeling in Saskatoon and Saskatchewan.
“There is a need to build policies and programs that find the common ground in how we support a changing resource economy, create new opportunities in the green economy, and play our part in tackling climate change.”
He notes that this is not easy work and the tensions are real but Canada’s history is one of working together and the country needs to build on that with cities as part of the solution.
Trudeau has already spoken with Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney, Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshhi and Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson.
