During Thursday’s Question Period the official opposition wanted clarification on whether there would be a new hospital built in Prince Albert to replace Victoria Hospital, which is now overcrowded. Health Critic Nicole Rancourt says in September of 2017 before Scott Moe became Premier he promised a new hospital, then a year later it became a re-development and in the Throne Speech last week it was again called a re-development.
Minister of Health Jim Reiter answered that it could be a new development or a redevelopment with an addition, and unlike other hospitals, this one would be completely funded by the government because it is the main service centre for the north.
Rancourt wanted to hear from Premier Scott Moe on this issue, but when he later stood up to comment in the Legislature, his answer was a bit different than Reiter’s. He said, “We are going to build them a new hospital, Mr. Speaker. We are going to build them a new hospital that has more capacity, that has more services, and the province is going to pay for that hospital”.
