With fireworks exploding around them, Saskatoon firefighters battled a blaze in a fireworks business on the 900 block of Central Avenue. The department started getting multiple 9-1-1 calls shortly after nine o’clock last night [tues]. A total of five engines, 1 heavy rescue, and 1 aerial ladder responded. They arrived to find smoke coming from the roof and front of the building. In addition to the explosions, crews entering the building were met with heavy smoke and zero visibility. Streets were blocked off. Nearby businesses were evacuated. It took nearly 2.5 hours to beat the fire down. No one was hurt. There is no damage estimate yet. An investigator is looking for the cause.
