The provincial NDP wants to know why the Sask. Party government is standing up for a French conglomerate instead of for workers at a Saskatoon company who just want to get paid. The conglomerate is the one that built the Regina Bypass. They hired Supreme Steel of Saskatoon to build the steel girders for bridges on the Bypass. The Saskatoon company issued a lien to the builder as they tried to get paid for the work. The conglomerate took them to court and were supported by the Ministry of Highways. The judge dismissed the application. Bypass Critic Cathy Sproule says, “Anytime Saskatchewan people have raised an issue with the Regina Bypass, whether it was local farmers who took exception to their land being expropriated, or Balgonie citizens concerned with semi-trucks being diverted to a dead-end on Main Street, the Sask. Party has always sided with the large French conglomerate over local voices.” Sproule wants to know how many other liens have been put on the bypass and how many other small companies have been squeezed.
