Saskatoon Police Service says the sudden death investigation that got underway this morning is a deceased infant.
The call came in at 8:50 a.m. from the 400 block of 5th Avenue North. It was a call described as an unknown problem. Arriving officers found the body of the baby in an alley inside a recycling bin.
Police say there is evidence this is a recent birth that occurred at another location and there is an urgent need to locate the mother of this child. They believe she gave birth recently and may be in a vulnerable physical and emotional state.
Saskatoon Police are working with the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service to determine the infant’s cause of death. An autopsy is scheduled for next Tuesday.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300 or 1-800-222-8477 for Crime Stoppers.
