The legacy of the 2016 Husky Oil spill has proven to be positive for Prince Albert.
The city has opened a new reservoir that has four days of capacity.
Mayor Greg Dionne says they learned after the spill the city’s water storage capacity was inadequate.
In addition to the above-ground reservoir that can hold 52.6 million litres of treated water, the 15-million dollar project includes a new 227-metre above-ground pump house at the Water treatment Plant.
The pump house is expected to improve water pumping capacity and save on power costs.
Dionne says the aftermath of the spill also resulted in Husky Oil supplying new filters for the Water Treatment Plant and has agreed to maintain them for five years.
The Federal Government gave 6-million dollars toward the project with the city putting up close to 6-million. The province’s share was 3-million.
