Kyle Luciuk says he was headed west on Highway 14 on his way to Biggar this morning when he encountered a long line of vehicles and realized there had been an accident with no medical personnel or first responders yet on scene
Luciuk is a volunteer firefighter with the Waldheim Fire and Rescue.
The accident happened about 11 kilometres west of Saskatoon and two people were injured. One of them seriously.
Luciuk says it was a true collaborative effort and he felt he was recognized and respected for his training by those who do the job full time.
“Goes to show that no matter who we are, or who we represent, whether you’re a department out east or a department out west, small time, big time, male, female, young, old. We all came together collectively in a time when someone needed us and performed a professional service.”
Highway 14 is expected to be closed at least until 1 pm. You can check the Highway Hotline map to see if it has re opened.
Saskatoon Police are advising drivers to adjust their speed to allow for the driving conditions today [fri].
Freezing rain has made for slippery roads in and around the city. Since 6:00 a.m., Saskatoon Police have responded to 15 collisions. No injuries have been reported.
Drivers should maintain reduced speeds, allow for more time to reach their destinations, and be patient.
Emergency Crews attended a single vehicle rollover on Circle Drive just north of Taylor Street in the northbound lanes. Traffic restrictions were in place. Police say that has now been cleared and the roadway reopened.
Saskatoon Emergency Services were also on scene of a multi-vehicle collision on Circle Drive north, near 33rd Street. That was around 8 o’clock this morning. There are no reported injuries however drivers were being urged to slow down and give themselves plenty of time to get to their destinations.
