While one Freedom of Information court case has come to an end, another continues on for two University professors. Dr. Patricia Elliott withdrew her case against the Environment Ministry after she received over four thousand pages of information, a small portion of that redacted, on the clean-up efforts after the Husky Energy oil spill in 2016. Elliott submitted a Freedom of Information request 2 years ago, in November of 2017. Now, Dr. Emily Eaton is seeking information on energy research funding from the University of Regina, and is undertaking a lengthy court process to do so. She says the U of R is sending a poor message by continuing to fight this in the courts. Eaton says academics pursue the truth and need full disclosure of research funders, so the university’s actions make it look like they have something to hide. Eaton adds her legal fees will be in the $12 thousand range.
