The Saskatchewan Health Authority says the investigation is still underway into the cause of brown discoloured water coming out of the taps at St. Pauls’ hospital in Saskatoon. The situation arose Wednesday afternoon.
A precautionary drinking water advisory remains in effect. The City of Saskatoon has inspected water mains around St. Paul’s Hospital and have found no issues outside of the hospital in the City water system. That included a check of water from nearby homes. The City doesn’t believe the discoloured water originated in the City’s system and they are now awaiting lab results from seven samples taken inside the hospital on Wednesday night.
No tap water or ice formed with tap water is to be consumed or used in medical procedures until further notice.
Emergency water supplies including bottled water have been distributed to all units and departments and water trucks have been provided.
Sterilization of medical equipment is being undertaken at other sites within Saskatoon.
The Health Authority says no services have been impacted as a result of the water quality issues. Toilets can continue to be flushed and tap water used to wash hands but you are urged follow hand washing with an alcohol based hand rub.
