Canada’s rail companies are honouring Remembrance Day. Via Rail, CN and Canadian Pacific are all sounding their whistles at 11 Monday morning followed by a moment of silence.
Via Rail is distributing poppies and has a large poppy on some of its rail car exteriors. CP has a Remembrance and Veterans Day ceremony at Memorial Square in Calgary. In Canada, CP moves Canadian Forces’ equipment and has been named as one of this country’s most supportive employers of primary Reserve Force personnel. CN also has a history of moving Canadian military equipment and soldiers. Every CN employee who served in the Armed Forces is receiving a small gift in recognition of their efforts.
CN is also transporting the last known Centurion tank in Canada to be on the front lines during the Korean War from Nova Scotia to Langley, B.C., which is home to many people of Korean descent. More than 26-thousand Canadians served in that war and 516 Canadians lost their lives.
