The executive director of the Secret Santa Foundation expects around 21-hundred children will be receiving toys and books in the family hampers being given out this year. Nicole Semko explains that there will be 800 hampers provided for the less fortunate, helping around 3-thousand people overall.
This is the 36th year for the Secret Santa campaign, which began with former radio personality, the late Denny Carr, and which CJWW has since carried on. In that time, about 100-thousand children and 50-thousand families have been assisted by the Foundation.
Mayor Charlie Clark placed the first gifts at City Hall and lit the tree to kick off the campaign and as is tradition, the Carolling Firefighters led the crowd in song. The Saskatoon Co-operative Association donated $15-thousand to help with the food hampers.
