The Government of Saskatchewan announced last December that professional and volunteer firefighters would be able to access Workers’ Compensation coverage for 6 additional cancers and this Friday, that promise comes to fruition. The additions are prostate, skin, breast, cervical and ovarian cancer as well as multiple myeloma.
President of the Saskatchewan Professional Firefighters and Paramedics Association, Lloyd Zwack thanks the government for the presumptive coverage, which means if a firefighter is diagnosed, it is presumed to be work related. With this amendment, Saskatchewan has presumptive coverage for 15 forms of cancer for firefighters as well as heart injury.
