The Saskatchewan Roughriders will start Cody Fajardo at quarterback for Sunday’s West Final against Winnipeg.
On Saturday, Riders’ Head Coach Craig Dickenson told the media what Rider Nation was hoping to hear all week. “Cody, he had, uh, a full week of practice and he will be our starter.”
This comes after the 27 year-old suffered a back injury late in the season which forced him to miss the team’s last regular season game against Edmonton. Dickenson says their happy with Fajardo’s mobility and if he’s not quite 100 per cent, he’s close.
Fajardo said all things considered, he’s probably feeling the best since the injury.
“Hopefully adrenaline takes over and I don’t feel anything.”
Fajardo is a finalist for the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player award after finishing the year with 4,302 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
Late last week, Dickenson did say all three quarterbacks could see playing time in the West Final.
The other two quarterbacks being Isaac Harker and Bryan Bennett. Harker got the start in place of the injured Fajardo in week 21 against the Eskimos. Harker made 23 of 28 passes for 213 yards in the win.
Kick-off between the Blue Bombers and Roughriders is at 3:30 at Mosaic Stadium and on TSN.
The winner will book themselves a spot in the 107th Grey Cup in Calgary on November 24th against the winner of today’s (sun) East Final between Hamilton and Edmonton.
