Saskatoon City Council will discuss vote today (mon) on whether or not to purchase a 551 acre plot of land in the RM of Corman Park. Earlier this month, the City’s Finance Committee recommended that council approve a $9-million land purchase. The plot in Corman Park is well beyond the proposed Saskatoon Freeway and is earmarked for development when the Saskatoon region reaches a population of 700-thousand. The land is to stay as farmland for the foreseeable future. The parcel is located against a portion of the Northeast Swale outside of city limits and another section of land owned by the City which is also beyond the municipal boundary.
Saskatoon City Council will also consider changes to the city’s cycling bylaw. The most notable changes are to allow children 14 and under to ride on sidewalks and implementing a one-meter buffer zone for motorists who are passing cyclists on two-way streets. Council will meet at 1 o’clock at City Hall.
