Through the Freedom of Information Act, the provincial NDP received a memo which asks physician leaders not to contact outside agencies without informing the Saskatchewan Health Authority. During Question Period, Leader Ryan Meili called it a ‘muzzle memo’ which he described as one that criticizes physicians who spoke with their own licensing body or to various Foundations or the Health Ministry looking for more resources for their own portfolios.
Health Minister Jim Reiter hadn’t seen the memo, but when he read it, he considered it a note that asks staff to follow SHA protocol for outside communications. He doesn’t believe it was an attempt to muzzle anyone.
Meili quoted the memo which said physician leaders approaching external agencies was “discordant messaging” which Meili says is code for don’t tell the public.
