SaskPower spokesman Joel Cherry says today’s open house for the public is so those who could be impacted by the a transmission line project in Saskatoon fully understands what it might entail.
He notes that its not the first time SaskPower has built a transmission line but they haven’t built one in an urban environment like the high traffic area in Saskatoon, in quite some time.
He says people can expect traffic restrictions along Attridge Drive where they may need to reduce speeds and block of lanes of traffic, one at a time, to facilitate work in the area. Cherry says they may also need to limit foot traffic on the walking path along Attridge Drive and a significant number of trees will need to be removed on city property and on homeowners land.
“One of the most frequent causes of outages that we have is trees coming into contact with power lines. So, making sure that we can maintain proper distance between trees and power lines is an important part of our preventative maintenance.”
There is an open house Tuesday afternoon for the public from 3 p.m. till 8 p.m. at Sutherland Memorial Hall on Central Avenue.
