Two games, two different special teams malfunctions resulting in two losses for the Saskatoon Blades.
The Everett Silvertips spotted the Bridge City Bunch the opening goal Friday before rattling off a franchise record-tying five power play goals, on eight chances, and six unanswered tallies on the way to a 6-1 triumph on Mitch Love Night. The ‘Tips honoured the Blades’ head coach prior to the contest by retiring Love’s #2 jersey…the first player in Silvertips history to be so honoured.
Everett wasn’t about to be gracious hosts, though. After Radek Kucerik opened the scoring for the Blue and Gold, the ‘Tips scored three power play on three man advantage chances before the first period was done and never looked back. Gage Goncalves, Gianni Fairbrother and Jackson Berezowski each scored twice as the Silvertips improved to 15-4-1 for the season and won their eighth consecutive head-to-head meeting with the Blades.
On Wednesday, Saskatoon’s power play failed them, going 0-for-6…the first five chances coming while only trailing 1-0…before being trimmed 5-1 in Spokane by the Chiefs.
There’s no time for the 12-10-2 Bridge City Bunch to practice or work on their special teams as they return to action Saturday in Kent, Washington, against the Seattle Thunderbirds. Game time is 8:05 p.m., Saskatchewan Time, with the Sardinia Family Restaurant pre-game show beginning at 7 on 98-COOL. Following is the official game summary from the W-H-L…
