Substitute laptops and papers for test tubes and safety glasses and you’ve got a research-a-thon for USask College of Law students.
It was held earlier this week along with 9 other Canadian universities, with the goal of coming up with legal solutions for municipalities to consider in their attempts to tackle climate change.
Law student Logan Salm says they realized there is already climate policy out there, but it’s not always being implemented, so they decided to look backwards from there to figure out the disconnect.
What these students found was that in many cases municipalities come up with a plan and then discuss it with stakeholders and the public.
Their recommendation is to instead get stakeholders and the public involved from the beginning.
About 20 USask law students took part in the 5 hour event which included brainstorming, researching what various communities have done, and combing through academic papers.
Salm says this research-a-thon was a great opportunity to learn and get that research under their belts.
