The “Be a Santa to a Senior Program” will mean about 700 visits to elderly residents of long term care homes around Saskatoon.
The December campaign will see volunteers fan out to 10 care homes to spend time with residents while delivering gifts and cards made by school children.
The owner of the Saskatoon Home Instead Senior Care office says many residents get very few visits throughout the year.
Grey Charyna feels the personal touch delivered by volunteers gives the campaign added value to both seniors and the volunteers.
He says volunteers keep coming back year-after-year because of how the visits touched them.
Organizers have been helping prepare the volunteers while the school children have spent this month making cards and crafts.
Charyna says they are close to reaching their fundraising goal of 20-thousand dollars.
