The official opposition raised concerns about staffing at the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital during Question Period Thursday.
NDP critic Vicki Mowat says since opening day, there have been a number of reports about understaffing with 52 by SEIU-West.
Health Minister Jim Reiter says sometimes there’s recruitment issues, but overall he says the staff have done a really good job of doing recruitment and calling in extra overtime staff when needed.
He adds they’re making every effort to fully staff the new hospital.
Thursday was the second consecutive day that the opposition brought up staffing issues at new Children’s Hospital during Question Period.
The SaskParty’s mid-year financial report was also a topic of interest during Thursday’s Question Period.
NDP Finance Critic, Trent Wotherspoon says the report released Thursday morning is more proof that the Moe government is letting people down.
“Economic growth has been cut in half from what was projected in the budget, down to 0.6 per cent growth. Saskatchewan is on-track to have the second lowest growth rate in the country.” said Wotherspoon.
Minister of Finance, Donna Harpauer said quote “Only the members opposite would put a negative spin on a budget that’s balanced.”
The SaskParty government is forecasting a surplus of over 37 million dollars for this fiscal year. The mid-year report points to higher federal transfer payments, resource revenue and net income from government businesses.
