The Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce is not impressed with the city’s higher-than-anticipated tax increases. The Chamber believes increases should be closely correlated with the rate of inflation. CEO Darla Lindbjerg says they were encouraged when City Council was looking to reduce the originally proposed tax increases to 3.15 per cent in 2020 and 3.52 per cent the year after. But she says, “The fact that council has chosen to move the tax increase to 3.7 per cent and 3.87 per cent, which is much higher than the original presentation by administration, is extremely disappointing.” Lindbjerg says, the chamber believes the city should make an effort to find efficiencies and savings within the organization to keep tax increases low.
