The University of Saskatchewan’s Canadian Light Source may have played a role in finding green energy alternatives in the future.
A University of Western research team used the facility for tests on rechargeable batteries.
They found coating them with a carbon layer extends their life up to 50-percent.
The lead researcher feels this could lead to improved performances in electric vehicles and other green energy sources that use batteries including an alternative to oil.
The team used the light source’s synchrotron radiation to better understand the chemistry and electrochemistry of the tested batteries.
