In addition to emergency room wait times, discussion around the new Saskatchewan Hospital North Battleford also took place during Monday’s Question Period.
NDP Health Critic, Danielle Chartier says the hospital was meant to alleviate pressure on acute care hospitals and in emergency rooms. She says the reality has been anything but with a leaky roof and rooms closed due to broken pipes.
Health Minister, Jim Reiter says officials are continuing to attempt to provide the best possible service while issues with construction of the facility are being worked out.
The NDP also brought up documents obtained by access to information show that emergency room wait times in Saskatoon average 2.8 hours and 5.3 hours in Regina.
Minister Reiter says wait times at ERs is a problem not only in Saskatchewan but across the country. He adds health officials across the country are working diligently to reduce ER wait times.
