The Government of Saskatchewan has approved photo speed enforcement for the intersection of Highway 41 and Highway 2 at Wakaw.
The province says speed is a persistent problem at that intersection with data showing 42 per cent of vehicles going through on Highway 41 exceed the posted speed limit with 6.2 per cent of those being more than 10 km/hr over the limit.
The Town of Wakaw and the RM of Fish Creek 402 supports the measures. Once operational there will be a three month period in which only warnings are issued then active ticketing begins. The Wakaw camera is expected to be installed by the end of January.
From 2011 to 2017 there were 31 collisions resulting in 6 deaths and 45 injuries at or near the intersection.
