The provincial government says, on average, over 56 hundred vehicles use the Regina bypass every day. Highways and Infrastructure Minister Greg Ottenbreit says, “We are encouraged to see many people benefiting from the bypass in the first weeks of full operation.” The government believes that by diverting traffic to the bypass, fuel consumption will be reduced by nearly 300 million litres over 30 years resulting in a 1.5 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The bypass opened in October after four years of construction.
