Saskatoon Transit’s Jingle Bell Express begins Saturday.
The half hour service between Midtown, Centre, Market, Confederation and Lawson Heights Malls’ is back for a third year.
Saskatoon Transit Director Jim McDonald says ridership doubled between the first and second years and hopes that continues.
He believes convenience is the reason as shoppers can get to their destinations without having to worry about parking amid the holiday traffic.
McDonald says the service is a chance for those who don’t ride transit to try it out on decorated buses playing Christmas music.
The head of the city’s transit service also says the route drivers enjoy the experience as some are returning to get into the Christmas spirit.
Jingle Bell Express buses begin at 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and 10:30 a.m. on weekends.
The pre-Christmas service runs until December 23rd.
Buses are also planned for Boxing Day when rides will be free.
