Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers posted this morning on their Facebook site, what many probably feel, that they hope its the last time they have to post something about April Dawn Irving abusing dogs.
That’s after she was given a life-time ban on owning dogs, but it only applies in Alberta. Irving had earlier pleaded guilty to four offences under Alberta’s Animal Protection Act. The 59 year old woman was also fined more than $15,000 but doesn’t have to pay the fines because she spent the equivalent of 192 days in pre-trial custody.
April Dawn Irving had 200 dogs seized from her Milk River, Alberta property.
It started with 60 emaciated dogs in December 2014 and then another 141 more in January, 2015 with many reportedly in ill health and with behavioural problems. RCMP found 5 dogs dead.
Irving was charged in Saskatchewan in 2010 with operating a puppy mill in the Foam Lake area and recently had her appeal denied. She had been convicted in 2013 and fined 5-thousand dollars after 83 dogs were seized. A number of dogs were seized from Irving in 2007 as well, in Fort McMurray.
In 2016 when a photo of Irving was circulated due to multiple missed court appearances, the Animal Protection Services of Saskatchewan said at that time that they were definitely concerned Irving may again be in possession of animals pointing out she is on a restriction in Saskatchewan that she is not meant to have more than 2 dogs, but it is impossible to enforce that if they don’t know where Irving is located.
At one point she was even seen in Jamaica but returned to Canada after her Visa ran out.
