Mandatory early family dispute resolution is coming January 1st, for separation and divorce proceedings. The starting point will be in Prince Albert. The program will involve a range of options to resolve family law issues as an alternative to going through court proceedings. Those options will include such things as: Collaborative law services, family law arbitration, family mediation, and parent co-ordination. There will be low-income options for instances where the resolution mechanisms represent a significant financial burden. There will be exemptions for matters involving interpersonal violence, child abduction and other extraordinary circumstances. The process will roll out in Prince Albert and spread across the province at a later date.
