A second rally took place Friday afternoon as striking workers at the Co-op Refinery Complex in Regina continue to take to the streets after beginning their lock-out late Thursday afternoon and holding a rally Thursday night.
The union says they are fighting to protect their pension benefits and not give in to concessions the company is wanting workers to take in their new deal.
Scott Doherty, Executive Assistant to Unifor National President Jerry Dias says Unifor local 594 members are blocking fuel trucks for a brief time before letting them in and out of the Co-op Refinery Complex in Regina.
He adds their goal is to significantly cut down the fuel supply.
“I our hope is that we’re gonna cut them so that there’s no supply whatsoever, obviously they’re running right now and there’s some trucks getting in and out so, but out hope is that we cut it down entirely, at some point in time that may happen.”
Co-op vice president of refinery operations Gil Le Dressay says the company is offering 11,75% over four years, and offering the same pension as before or switching to a defined contribution pension which is similar to the best in the industry.
