As of January 1st, the federal liberals are hiking the tax in Saskatchewan, as it applies to SaskPower fossil fuel emissions, by ten dollars, to $30 per tonne. On top of that, federal emission thresholds for coal-fired generation have been reduced by almost 20 per cent. As a result, SaskPower says residential customers will see an estimated $22 per year increase on power bills. Farm customers can expect to pay $60 more per year. Of course, it all depends on individual consumption. We can look forward to annual increases until the tax reaches $50 per tonne in 2022.
