Be kind to each other. That’s the message from the executive director of the Saskatchewan Trucking Association regarding the Co-op Refinery strike in Regina. Susan Ewart says the STA has received reports of harassment and verbal abuse from striking Unifor members to the truck drivers when entering or leaving the facility. She says there have also been long delays for the truckers, but truck companies and drivers lose money when the wheels aren’t moving. The STA says 26 independent fleets haul products for the refinery and that they are all experiencing similar issues accessing and being permitted to leave the facility. In reaction, the president of Unifor Local 594, Kevin Bittman, says he has not seen disrespect on the picket line, but they have stressed Unifor members that they need to be respectful during this dispute.
