The Kawacatoose First Nation is wondering why no one from CP Rail or the federal government has contacted them about the CP train derailment on December 9th, 1.5 million litres of crude oil was spilled near Lanigan. Kawacatoose is about 87km southeast of Lanigan. Chief Tom Dustyhorn says some of their treaty sustenance hunters hunt in that area. Dustyhorn says it isn’t just the environment and the impact on wildlife and plants that concerns him. He says, “I’m more concerned about the underground water and how that may impact our First Nation.” Dustyhorn says, “First Nations are always left out and this is no different.”
