From Halifax to Victoria and everywhere in between, Canada Post employees are working seven days a week to ensure parcels make it to their destinations in time for Christmas.
Canada Post spokesperson Jon Hamilton says the crown corporation is experiencing a record holiday season. On the weekend of December 7th and 8th, Hamilton says 3.2 million parcels were delivered, he says that’s a record.
Speaking of records another one was broke the following Monday when 2.2 million parcels were delivered to Canadians that day.
Here in Saskatoon, Hamilton says on a normal duty, they deliver around three thousand parcels a day and currently during the holiday season, the postal service is delivering around 7 thousand or more parcels a day.
Hamilton credits the rise in parcels being delivered to online shopping.
Hamilton adds there are 30 seasonal employees helping with the holiday rush. That includes an additional 19 trucks out on Saskatoon streets.
Those who haven’t got their parcel in the mail can do so up until the 23rd. Hamilton says the longer you wait, the more it will cost. Canada Post said last Thursday was the last date to ensure your “regular parcel” makes it in time for Christmas.
Hamilton reminds residents to clean their sidewalks and walkways not only for the safety of the carriers but for those who may be visiting you this holiday season.
