The Canadian Taxpayers Federation says bracket creep is sneaking into Saskatchewan again this year because the province’s tax brackets aren’t adjusted for inflation. Bracket creep is when your wage moves higher, but because of inflation it doesn’t mean you are any further ahead.
Prairie Director of the CTF, Todd MacKay explains that the provincial government said it would ‘temporarily’ stop indexing tax brackets to inflation, but this is the third year in a row. He considers it a sneaky way to raise income tax, netting millions of dollars.
According to the CTF’s New Year’s Tax Changes report released today (Fri), bracket creep will add about $44 to the average family’s tax bill this year.
