SGI’s traffic safety focus for November was suspended drivers and unregistered vehicles. Spokesperson, Tyler McMurchy, says in either of these cases you shouldn’t be on the road. Doing so can nullify your insurance coverage and depending on the offence, carries additional penalties including fines, court summons, and vehicle impoundments.
Police across the province reported 302 people driving while suspended or disqualified, and 515 offences for unregistered vehicles or trailers. 181 tickets were handed out for driving without a valid licence, 64 for learner drivers not having a supervising driver with them and 44 drivers failing to comply with a licence endorsement or restriction. That adds up to 11-hundred-6 people caught driving when they shouldn’t have been.
In more positive news, the number of distracted drivers was down in November with 653 tickets handed out. It’s the first time in 9 months that the total has been below 700.
