Just before 5:30 Saturday afternoon, police responded to Midtown Plaza for a report of a unknown substance being dispersed into the air.

Once officers arrived, they were directed to a 13 year-old female who was in custody and was subsequently charged with multiple criminal offences.

Police learned that the female and three other male suspects were in an altercation with an unknown male. During the incident, one of the male suspects discharged bear spray at the unknown male.

The three male suspects and the unknown male fled the mall prior to police arriving. Those involved in the incident were known to each other and the act was not random.

The female youth is facing a number of charges including Assault with a Weapon. Both paramedics and fire crews attended to the mall to decontaminate the area.

No members of the public were injured and the investigation is continuing.
