The Saskatoon Fire Department is reminding residents of safe practices when using fireworks on New Year’s Eve.
Low hazard fireworks can only be discharged on private property between dusk on New Year’s Eve and 12:15 a.m. on New year’s day.
Low hazard fireworks are for public use and it includes things like roman candles and sparklers that travel less than 50 metres, or 160 feet high.
You are urged to carefully read the instructions and make sure the area where you are setting them off is free of obstructions above and around the area you are discharging the fireworks. And make sure it’s not windy. Plus you need to wait 30 minutes before starting to clean up. It might even be a good idea to dispose of used fireworks and debris in a pail of water.
