2019 was an interesting and difficult year according to CEO of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce, Steve McLellan.
He says whenever there’s a federal election, it’s difficult. It’s hard on the economy because the government slows down and decisions aren’t made.
McLellan adds federal elections, especially as divisive as the one this year, have effects on people’s psychic.
“They hear all the negativity that the elected and those looking to be elected spout.”
The CEO says the economy here in Saskatchewan is not where they would would like to see, however they feel positive heading into 2020.
McLellan says they’re very optimistic that 2020 is going to be a turnaround year and that the economy and the attitude of Saskatchewan will be better.
The CEO points to Saskatchewan hosting two national events next year that will bring dollars into province. In the spring, Saskatoon will host the JUNO Awards while later in the year, Regina will play host to the Grey Cup. McLellan says both events will have people leaving Saskatchewan with a positive impression of the province.
The Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce is also hoping for a better crop in 2020 than the one this year.
A province election is also a highlight for 2020 says McLellan. Even though it will bring some negativity, the CEO says it will perhaps be a little more pleasant then the federal election.
