The Saskatoon Farmers’ Market will be making the move from the city’s Riversdale neighbourhood to the Airport Business Area this weekend.
After spending the last 12 years at River Landing, the Farmers’ Market will set up shop on Koyl Avenue, although for the next couple of months the market will be located beside what will become the market’s permanent home at 2600 Koyl Avenue.
That’s due to construction taking place at the soon-to-be permanent location. It’s expected that the market will move into its new permanent home by the weekend of February 29th and March 1st.
Executive Director, Erika Quiring says people can expect much of the same when attending the market with regular winter vendors selling meats, vegetables and baked goods among other items.
Quiring says the area offers plenty of free parking and that the market’s hours will remain the same during their time at their temporary location.
Last year approximately 70 per cent of the current members who attended a meeting voted in favour of moving to the new location on Koyl Avenue.
The farmers’ market was forced to leave the Riversdale location after the City expressed that it wanted the facility to be “animated” six days a week and a renewal for the lease was declined.
The City then issued a request for proposals, although the request was quickly withdrawn once it was realized there was damage to the building’s roof.
Farmers’ Market hours:
Saturdays: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Sundays: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
